About the OpportunityReporting to the Executive Director of University Payroll Services , the Associate Director of Payroll Operations is accountable for ensuring on-time and accurate pay to all USC employees, as well as the delivery of Payroll-related customer service to the USC Community. The Associate Director of Payroll Operations:

Oversees the daily workflow/workload of Payroll Operations including execution of both on-cycle and off-cycle payroll payments, including distribution of checks and advice slips.
Documentation and communication of Payroll operation procedures.
Establishes a customer-oriented culture; responsible for customer service delivery to departments and employees via various channels including, but not limited to front desk support, phone, email correspondence and ServiceNow (self-service content and ticketing).
Assists in identifying change management activities and helps to collaborate with various stakeholders for items related to payroll including training and communications.
Maintains appropriate internal controls and ensures compliance with payroll laws and regulations at the state, federal and local level.
Drives continuous process improvement throughout the operations to increase efficiency / productivity and to improve service levels.
In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Payroll Systems Manager, recommends changes to Payroll systems/technology and participates routinely in testing and deployment of new systems functionality.
Maintains appropriate records/audit trail.
Establishes KPI's and measures/tracks performance.
Provides leadership to the Payroll Operations team including:

Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff
Provides constructive and timely feedback, including coaching and performance evaluations
Collaboratively partners with various functional teams including, but not limited to, Human Resources, Compensation, business units, Finance, etc.
Develops and implements security related procedures such as office opening and closing routines, recognition of duress signals and key controls. Coordinates security activities with Department of Public Safety. Promotes and maintains standards for security conscious awareness and behavior. Maintains knowledge of University's crime prevention and suppression programs and services. Ensures dissemination of security related information to staff.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time. Job Qualifications The ideal candidate for the position of Associate Director of Payroll Operations meets the following preferred requirements:

Extensive knowledge of the payroll function
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong supervisory and leadership skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Excel
Extensive experience with HRP/Payroll systems and experience with Workday HCM/Payroll a plus
More than 5 years of experience
Minimum of 2 years' supervisory experience
Bachelor's degree preferred; degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred All candidates for the position of Associate Director of Payroll Operations must meet the following minimum requirements:

Associate's degree; however, combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
5 years of Payroll operations experience, including with automated systems; however, combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience
Supervisory experience

Withholds and remits state and federal taxes, as well as other mandatory and optional deductions
Ensures distribution of accurate W-2 tax forms
Provides payroll related customer support to the University community
Manages Non-Resident Alien payments

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
