Netflix Africa Partnership Program Administrator

In 2022, the USC School of Cinematic Arts will launch an innovative partnership with Netflix's Grow Creative Africa aimed at training the current and next generation of cinematic storytellers in key markets in Sub-Saharan Africa. SCA will develop and implement a series of training courses and workshops focusing on screenwriting, production, post-production, and potentially other key areas of development. Many of these programs many be developed in partnership with local African production companies, film academies, and arts organizations. The 2022-2023 programs will be conducted virtually with the possibility of in-person programs at USC and in Africa if the program extends into subsequent years. Job Summary The Program Administrator position will have the overall responsibility for all programmatic, administrative, and budgetary components of this new unique project. The program administrator will work closely with selected SCA faculty and entertainment professionals who will design and deliver multiple virtual training courses for professional and emerging African filmmakers and creators. The administrator will work closely with senior Netflix Africa management, SCA's international staff, and local African partners and organizations, to successfully deliver these workshops. The ideal candidate will have significant experience with program management as well as preexisting knowledge of and relationships within the both the American and African film/TV markets. This candidate should be a natural leader and collaborator, an exceptional communicator, flexible and calm in the face of challenges, and passionate about talent development. The program administrator will be based at the USC School of Cinematic Arts in Los Angeles. This is a one year fixed term position. Responsibilities Develop the operational and administrative vision of the SCA Netflix Grow Creative Africa partnership's programs within the SCA context. Conduct research, establish realistic program goals and create plans to implement and supervise unique (currently virtual) training programs with key stake holders. Responsible for the preparation of all required external and internal written materials related to partnership development. Serve as the primary liaison between SCA and Netflix Grow Creative Africa, regularly reviewing Netflix's evolving program training goals in Sub-Saharan Africa and aligning SCA program activities to support those objectives. Oversee the day-to-day implementation of the program, working with SCA International Programs Leadership, faculty and outside U.S. film / TV professionals to develop curriculum and course goals. Plan and produce multiple courses simultaneously with various African production companies and academies. Responsible for identifying, developing, and maintaining key relationships with selected African talent development entities including film and TV programs at universities as well as independent professional and governmental organizations supporting film and TV in Sub-Saharan Africa. In collaboration with Netflix and African partners, develop and oversee the recruitment and selection process for the Netflix African workshops participants. Track and maintain an alumni network from SCA Netflix Africa programs and work with Netflix to identify new opportunities for ongoing support of identified talent. Recruit and develop a network of SCA faculty and Hollywood/international industry professionals to serve as instructors and mentors, throughout the course development, instruction, and through the completion of each course. Establish performance standards and evaluation strategies; recommend and implement course changes as appropriate. Navigate cross-cultural settings and successfully bridge gaps in understanding between American/international instructors and African partners and participants. Tactfully work with instructors to assure that course content is relevant and respectful in each cultural context. Collaborate with SCA faculty and SCA International Programs leadership to develop and draft new proposals for additional programming within the Netflix SCA partnership based on identified gaps and potential new opportunities in the African talent market. Manage the Program Specialist who will oversee all logistical, budgetary, and technical aspects of the partnership. Perform other related duties as assigned or requested. Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree, preferred in film, television or related programming work experience; combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education Pre-existing awareness and interest in the African cinema and television industries, and a strong sense of international socio-political geography Minimum seven years of work experience at a management leadership level in a related field Exceptional writing and communication skills Budget organization and management Strong organizational skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects daily Adaptable and resourceful in the face of unexpected problems Outstanding people skills to collaborate with many types of individuals in diverse cultural settings Problem identification and resolution Ability to undertake occasional international travel, particularly in Africa Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree, preferred in film, television or related programming work experience; combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education International work experience, preferably in Africa, as a filmmaker, producer, executive, senior manager, or consultant Significant relationships with African film/TV talent and organizations Experience in the American film/TV industry Fluency in a second language This is a Netflix-funded project.
