Los Angeles, CA Los Angeles, CA 7 hours ago 7 hours ago 7 hours ago Under the supervision of the chief curator, senior curator and curator, curatorial assistants perform professional curatorial duties relating to the field of specialized knowledge as well as collection research related to the Hammer Contemporary Collection.
Major curatorial duties include checklist research and development; compilation of publication materials in conjunction with exhibitions; and preparing, coordinating, and monitoring loan forms and contracts in accordance with Museum procedures.
Develop, research, plan, and coordinate complex exhibitions, collections projects, programs and events under the direction of lead curators.
Carefully and thoughtfully organize all aspects of exhibitions and projects including initiations, approvals, budgets, contracts, correspondence, travel/hospitality, logistics/technical requirements, communications, visitor experience, artist relationships, documentation, and other details as appropriate.
Major administrative duties include responding to artist submissions and exhibition proposals; corresponding with guest curators and colleagues in the field; organizing and maintaining collections/exhibition files and various departmental filing systems; schedule and travel planning for curators, artists, and museum consultants; preparing drafts and final correspondence, memoranda, reports, tables, and other documents; and assisting the Senior Curator with administrative duties related to Hammer Contemporary Collection management, and day-to-day museum operations.

30 pm Qualifications for Position 14 Records Qualifications Required/Preferred BA in art or art history, with expertise in contemporary art or equivalent education and experience.
Required MA in art or art history preferred.
Preferred Proven art history research skills and exhibition and project coordination experience.
Required Experience organizing and curating exhibitions.
Required Prior art museum experience and knowledge of museum operations, standards, practices, and procedures.
Required Excellent interpersonal skills to interact and effectively deal with artists, outside vendors, and other museums, as well as diverse student, Museum and university staff population.
Required Professional demeanor and courteous/helpful phone manner for dealing with artists and exhibition-related consultants.
Required Excellent communication skills, including oral, written, editing, and proofreading; demonstrated ability to compose exhibition descriptions, artist biographies, and business correspondence with correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Required Self-starting, resourceful, proactive, and motivated in performing and excelling in responsibilities; highly organized, efficient, and attentive to detail, with excellent follow-up skills.
Required Ability to prioritize and adjust to a heavy workload, manage a variety of tasks, and meet various deadlines with changing priorities, frequent interruptions, and conflicting deadlines.
Required Skill in using PCs and fluency in MS Office, including Word, Access, Outlook and Excel; familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat software.
Required Demonstrated project planning and administrative experience.
Required Ability to hire, train, supervise and evaluate work study students.
Required Ability to do the following:
sit and stand for extended periods; type; talk; possess visual acuity to view a computer monitor and do extensive reading; color vision; depth perception.
