We are currently hiring for 2 positions starting in April 2024 We are also hiring for our next counselor group starting in August 2024.
CPLA School sites are located throughout the Los Angeles area.
Placements are made with your geography and availability in mind.

You will receive 600-700 total hours:
250-300 face-to-face hours during a full school year working in a supportive, caring environment.

MORE INFORMATION ABOUT A TRAINEESHIP WITH CPLA (this is a PART-TIME, UNPAID position) CPLA is dedicated to supporting at-risk and under-served students living in Los Angeles.
Our school-based, low-cost counseling program provides essential and accessible support services students need in order to grow toward their full potential emotionally, intellectually, morally, and socially.

- Overall Time Commitment:
Mental Health clinicians support students from August through June.
For those applying for our January to December cohort, please note that there is a 7-week break in the summer as our schools are not in session.
- Weekly commitment:
A commitment with CPLA includes working two school days per week (7:
30 am-3:
00 pm), to attend 1 or 2 (2 hour) clinical supervision groups each week as required, scheduled from 3:
30 to 5:
30 or 4:
00 to 6:
00 (group supervision is at a different location than the school).
If your university hours requirement is greater than 350 hours, you would want/need to commit to 3 days/week in order to graduate on time.
Note:
this position requires you to be available all assigned days every week that your school site is in session.
Thus generally you need to be available on work days from 7:
30-3:
00 in person and to also allow additional 2-4 hours/week to ensure you meet your supervision requirements.
-School site counseling days:
Most CPLA counseling assignments are 2 day positions.
There may be a very limited number of 1 and 3 day assignments.
To best serve our students and schools, these days generally cannot be two days in a row.
Counselors typically work at their schools either Mondays/Wednesdays, Tuesdays/Thursdays, Mondays/Friday, Mondays/Thursdays, or Tuesdays / Fridays, depending on the needs of the school site (not on a school's 1/2 day) and our openings.
- BBS Hours:
You can expect to receive approximately 250-300 face-to-face child psychotherapy hours in one school year.
In addition you will receive approximately 60-120 group supervision hours (depending on it you are a trainee or an intern).
44 total training hours are offered.
Also, you will accrue Client Centered Advocacy hours, workshop hours, and note taking hours.
If you are interested or if it is required for your program, you will have an opportunity to create and conduct group counseling at the school as well.
- Clinical Supervision:
The supervision sessions are now all on ZOOM.
Many of our counselors attend their clinical supervision groups after school from 3:
30 to 5:
30 or 4:
00 to 6:
00.
There are also some late morning supervisions on some weekdays and on Saturdays.
Our clinical supervisors fulfill the BBS requirements to supervise MFT trainees and associates.
-Training Days:
There is a 3-day mandatory training in the second week of August.
You must be available to attend.
This training is mandatory and will cover CPLA policies and procedures.
- School Placements:
If you are offered a spot and accept, we will place you at a school that works for you, keeping in mind where you live, where you attend school, the supervision site and other commitments you have, and also based on availability at the time you are hired.
This year CPLA serves schools in downtown LA, Central LA, East LA , South LA, Palmdale, San Fernando Valley and the South Bay.
Note that during the school year the school sites that may be availability may be limited.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
