The Williams Institute current budget is over $4.5 million. The Director of Development will be responsible for the administration of the Williams Institute's development programs and its various components, including events, gift solicitation, public and private grants, donor cultivation, program endorsement, development operations, and support staff management. The candidate must possess a high level of judgment in developing ambitious programs that will result in the expansion of the Institute's income base, budget, and impact. Bachelor's degree preferred.
Preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to work with the donors, alumni, students, administrators, and colleagues. Skill in interacting diplomatically and discretely with the public in a public contact setting.

Excellent written communication skills; knowledge of proper punctuation, spelling, sentence construction, paragraph construction, and correct grammar in order to compose and edit solicitations, business correspondence, and respond to donor inquiries. High level of attention to detail required.

Impeccable integrity and discretion in dealing with donors, alumni, students, administrators and colleagues.
Required
Expert knowledge of gift terminology and the ability to apply that language to achieve the goals of a fund raising program.

Advanced knowledge of fundraising principles and techniques sufficient to complete a variety of projects and assignments successfully and with minimal supervision.
Preferred
Strong organizational skills and ability to work effectively under conditions of heavy work load, frequent interruptions, distractions, and deadlines.
Required
Advanced computer proficiency in order to operate personal computer and be able to use a variety of computer software in a Windows environment, such as Word, Excel, Access, Photoshop, etc.

Ability to design and maintain spreadsheets that analyzes various fund information.
Required
Ability to interpret all policies governing donor relations and development.
Required
Ability to work some overtime, evenings, and weekends for fund-raising special events.
Required
Minimum five years of event planning experience in a non-profit development environment.

Proficiency with donor databases and with the Advance database.
Preferred
Advanced ability to organize and implement the logistical requirements of events and programs, including materials, information, and people in a systematic way to optimize efficiency.

Ability to analyze strategy to cultivate more funds.

Ability to analyze situations, define problems and objectives, identify relevant factors, formulate logical conclusions, and recognize alternatives expeditiously.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
